Pat Haley was born July 15m 1952, in San Jose, California. He attended San Jose City College before transferring to California State University, Chico. He received a BA in Physical Education and a teaching credintial in 1976. Grandmaster Shugoro Nakazato promoted Kyoshi Haley to the rank of Hachidan, 8^th Degree Black Belt, on January 7, 2009, in Naha, Okinawa.

Pat Haley began his Karate training in 1974. In 1985 he began training personally under Grandmaster Shugoro Nakazato in Okinawa, Japan. Whil hosting the 1994 Shorin Ryu International Karate Camp, he was promoted to Nana Dan, 7^th Degree Black Belt. He also hold the rank of Roku Dan in Kobudo.
